Description

Cement rotary kilns calcine cement and other materials, converting raw materials into clinker. Generally speaking, this process consists of three stages: raw material preparation, clinker calcination, and cement grinding, commonly known as "two grindings, one burning." If pulverized coal preparation is included, the term can be changed to "three grindings, one burning."
Cement production can be categorized into two types, dry (including semi-dry) and wet (including semi-wet), depending on the raw material preparation method. Today, cement production primarily utilizes the new dry process, which preheats the raw material through the high temperatures of a preheater and exhaust gases before it enters the kiln. This decomposition of the calcium carbonate in the raw material into calcium oxide in the calciner results in over 90% of the calcium carbonate being converted to calcium oxide.

Working Principle

A rotary kiln is a cylindrical structure with a slope of 3-3.5%. Its rotation promotes agitation of the materials within the kiln, allowing them to mix, contact, and react. Coal injection at the kiln head generates a large amount of heat, which is transferred to the materials through flame radiation, convection of hot gases, and conduction through the kiln bricks (kiln lining). The materials are moved forward within the kiln by the kiln's tilt and rotation.
